Join Our Fall Book Club!

Are you an intermediate French learner looking to take your reading and conversational abilities to the next level? Join us from September 20th to December 6th, every Friday at 9 am, for a unique opportunity to read and discuss a French book together.

This intermediate-level French course centers around a book club reading of “Un sac de billes” (A Bag of Marbles) by Joseph Joffo. This autobiographical novel tells the story of two young Jewish brothers, Joseph and Maurice, who must flee Nazi-occupied Paris in 1941 to survive. Their journey across France is filled with danger, courage, and moments of unexpected kindness.

Joseph Joffo was a French author best known for this poignant memoir of his childhood experiences during World War II. Published in 1973, “Un sac de billes” became an international bestseller and has been adapted into films and graphic novels.

What to Expect:

  • Engage in thoughtful, authentic discussions about the book and life in general
  • Expand your French vocabulary, particularly related to history and human experiences
  • Build fluency through regular reading and conversation
  • Gain insights into French culture and history during World War II

You should join if you are an intermediate French learner who wants to improve your language abilities while exploring meaningful literature. It offers a supportive environment to deepen French comprehension and expression while delving into themes of resilience, family, and survival.

 
Classes will be recorded, so you can watch at your leisure if you need to miss a class.

About the Instructor

Alice Ayel is originally from Paris and has been a teacher of French and Spanish for more than 15 years. She is the founder of Le Français Naturellement. Currently, Alice is well known for her videos based on the Story Listening approach, and she teaches languages online to people from all over the world. She is on a mission: French acquisition for all with optimal input.
