Description
January 6-March 24
This class is designed for students who have had some French experience in the past or you think you are “kind of” a beginner and you want to move on!
Build a strong foundation. Acquire the most frequent French words and structures used in everyday conversations. These super words and expressions will allow you to communicate in the greatest number of contexts. They will also help you understand the general gist of most conversations. They are super useful!
In each session you will:
- Respond to directions with actions
- Listen to compelling stories
- Co-create fun stories
- Read French with ease
- Engage in conversations about your interests.
There will be framing and scaffolding for everyone to understand the class. The goal is to boost your French and to boost your confidence to speak French naturally.
There is no pressure to speak! As your French comprehension expands and expands, speaking will spontaneously happen.
” Speaking is a result of language acquisition and not its cause.” (Krashen, 1985).

Alice, I have I have enjoyed the Fall 2022 Advanced Beginner live lessons so much! For me, the live classes are the way to go. I’m motivated on Monday mornings to see the “community of French learners”, and over time, I have become more relaxed and ready to speak French. My progress has been continual and steady, and I appreciate all the tips for finding level-appropriate material to support “listening and learning” in-between classes. I find the live lessons compelling and best of all, fun. Thanks for all that you do, and I’ll see you in 2023!

I am really enjoying Alice’s class. She keeps the class lively and entertaining with many opportunities to listen to her beautiful French and to speak it as we learn. I look forward to Monday mornings each week, knowing that I will be part of a fun learning experience.

Alice is a wonderful teacher! She is warm, encouraging, and creative. She uses a wide variety of materials that engage multiple intelligences, making it easy to learn. Each class is interesting and fun, and I I feel that my comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary expand as a result of each class. If you are even thinking of trying a class, don’t hesitate to try a class with Alice. You won’t be disappointed.

I’ve been enrolled in both Beginner Plus and Intermediate French classes this winter. At both levels, Alice brings the language to us in ways that we can understand, never pushing us too hard but using a variety of techniques to expand our knowledge and confidence, bit by bit. Some students start out shy, but Alice’s positive, encouraging, good-humored approach pulls them right in, and soon we have a comfortable, committed group. No session goes by without constant smiles and laughter. Alice is the best teacher I’ve ever had, and I’m 75 years old.

I have taken a lot of French in my life, including an immersion program in France. None of the methods have worked as well as Alice’s. When she says you don’t learn a language, you acquire it, she isn’t kidding!
Although I am far from fluent (I will be taking Beginner plus for a third time), I actually find myself thinking about French and wanting to be in a French-speaking place, so I am forced to use what I’ve learned. I really look forward to the classes. High recommend!
